this is an off-the-cuff sort of thing, as in im not going to write in initial impressions, the process of obtaining, technical information, nor the pre-impressions of these switches (for now). i just wanted to post this somewhere thats not tw/tter and the only other platform is my artblog which, as youd expect, is specifically for art.
update (to myself? to an imaginary audience) on these notoriously hard to get sp-star x kon momo switches. "notoriously hard" only in the sense that the only available avenues are through aliexpress/taobao. for the record, i got these on taobao and i cannot calculate for how much because these were shipped out internationally alongside a set of clothes.
to put these into some kind of context, i find that kon momos are infinitely easier to type on than u4s/u4ts/panda variants which i personally find "too tactile" for my liking. my delicate linears gang fingers cannot handle tactile keypresses for too long, because they get tired and the whole reason i switched to mechanical keyboards were solely for linears. but, i am incredibly pleased to note that the tactility of kon momos are really nice, actually! honestly these might win me over and might have helped me get over my dislike of more tactile typing experiences. all that said, boba u4s w silent stems are still the uncontested no.1 in my mind.
oh boy though, the, uh the leaf/spring ping (more like rattle) stock experience is kind of heinous. so, if i ever want to consider using these past my numpad id need to crack these open and get some grease on those springs at the very least. because of the rattle i cannot clearly evaluate the scratchiness. also, i dont know how to evaluate scratchiness on non-linear switches anyhow. these do come with an amount of factory lube, i personally consider it light and i did not bother verifying consistency across the 100 i bought. the lube itself is on the clear, thin side so i cannot imagine these significantly bogging down individual switches if there was inconsistency in lube application.
more on the bump- i dont know if these are considered "p-shaped"? there is very little (if at all), barely noticeable pretravel immediately followed by the actual tactile event, with postravel after the bump. the stem does not have an extended pole, so you get the usual amount of travel and no deep-deep clack on bottom out. cannot say anything about the bottom out or top out sounds because i use silent switches on my daily drivers. any mx thats not silent is therefore "a kind of loud clacky" to my ears.
the only other thing i have to compare to thats not panda-esque is 1 (one) sample of a sp-star orange switch; sp-star's take on a cherry brown, if you will. which, in laymans terms, means to say- linear-passing. its what i would categorize as the "the smell of la crois from across the room" level of tactility. in comparison to these, kon momos feel very solidly medium in tactility, at the least. some might say med-high, but i dont even know what "high" tactility feels like.
this does make me curious as to how aeboard naevies from tecsee would feel to my hands as theyre supposedly lighter (but still tactile)! ive got other (linear) priorities right now tho so ill hold off on getting those until r2s are announced, maybe. for now, i dont have any immediate plans to fully mount these on to my traditional mx daily driver, but ill definitely be keeping them around for modding and see how much my feelings change once certain noises are out of the experience.
